Anders als die Innere Mitte, die sich zum begehrten individuellen Schauplatz diverser Zentrierungs- und Harmonisierungsprojekte entwickelt hat, gleicht die Potsdamer Mitte einer Kampfzone höchst emotionaler Aufgeregtheit. Initiativen wie Mitteschön! und Potsdamer Mitte neu denken streiten um Deutungshoheit und Identität. Die Gräben sind tief. Der ästhetische Bagger räumt geschichtliche Sedimente ab stapelt ungeniert um. Es ist höchste Zeit für eine versöhnende Geste. Das MONUMENT FÜR DIE MITTE feiert den Potsdamer Mittelpunkt in seiner Schönheit, Einheit und Wahrhaftigkeit.

Potsdam has a special relationship with its center. In contrast to the inner center, which has developed into the coveted individual setting for various centering and harmonization projects, the center of Potsdam resembles a battle zone of highly emotional excitement. Initiatives like Mitteschön! and Potsdamer Mitte neu denken (rethinking the center of Potsdam) argue for sovereignty and identity. The trenches are deep. The aesthetic excavator clears away historical sediments and stacks them unabashedly. It is high time for a gesture of reconciliation. The MONUMENT FÜR DIE MITTE celebrates the center of Potsdam in its beauty, unity and truthfulness.
