KIOSK FOR A MAGIC FUTURE

In 2015, a group of international artists walked from Weimar via Dessau to Berlin, tracing the historic (and forced) movement of the Bauhaus. Their arrival marked the opening of the 2nd Herbstsalon at the Maxim Gorki Theater and the launch of Imaginary Bauhaus. Over the years, the project of imagining a Bauhaus of the future evolved across geographies and institutions. In 2025, we reunite at Gorki: What began as a collective experiment by students and teachers from the international Master’s programme Public Art and New Artistic Strategies at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is now growing into Imaginary Collective – a transnational network of artists, thinkers, and cultural workers. Its foundation aligns with the final Berliner Herbstsalon, marking not an end, but a beginning.

KIOSK FOR A MAGIC FUTURE is a shifting site of artistic enchantment – both exhibition and open collage. It begins with a performative REUNION Dinner as an edible and tangible manifesto of international artists and unfolds as a space in flux. Like a street kiosk it is accessible, provisional, and deeply political. Installations, performances, gestures, films, small objects and conversations invite the public to collectively think, imagine and exchange about possible futures.

2015 machte sich eine Gruppe internationaler Künstler*innen zu Fuß auf den Weg von Weimar über Dessau nach Berlin, auf den Spuren der historischen (unfreiwilligen) Routen des Bauhauses.
Ihre Ankunft markierte die Eröffnung des 2. Herbstsalons im Maxim Gorki Theater und den Start von Imaginary Bauhaus. Über die Jahre entwickelte sich das Projekt, ein Bauhaus der Zukunft zu imaginieren, über geografische und institutionelle Grenzen hinweg. 2025 kehren wir zurück ans Gorki: Was als kollektives Experiment von Studierenden und Lehrenden des internationalen Masterstudiengangs Public Art and New Artistic Strategies an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar begann, wächst nun zum Imaginary Collective – einem transnationalen Netzwerk von Künstler*innen, Denkenden und Kulturschaffenden. Die Gründung fällt mit dem letzten Berliner Herbstsalon zusammen und markiert nicht ein Ende, sondern einen Anfang.

KIOSK FOR A MAGIC FUTURE ist ein wandelbarer Ort künstlerischer Verzauberung – zugleich Ausstellung und offene Collage. Er beginnt mit einem performativen REUNION-Dinner als essbares und greifbares Manifest internationaler Künstler*innen und entfaltet sich anschließend
als Raum im Wandel. Wie ein Straßenkiosk ist er zugänglich, provisorisch und zutiefst politisch. Installationen, Performances, Gesten, Filme, kleine Objekte und Gespräche laden das Publikum zum gemeinsamen Denken, Imaginieren und zum Austausch über mögliche Zukünfte ein.
